There is a lot to say about Mark Ronson, Ex-Pat NYC based British musical auteur. Internationally renowned as one of the worlds finest DJs, favoured by the decadent fashion cognoscenti, the hip hop elite and anyone in general that likes to party, add to that list; uber-producer du jour, solo artist, band leader, loving father to a beautiful black border collie named Maude, label boss etc, all far too much for most hectic jet setting humans to fit into the everyday.
You may be familiar perhaps with his version of Radiohead’s ‘Just’ – the re-jigged, recorded and layered with added hip hop beats, soulful progression, funk ballast and vocals courtesy of Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet that rocked the airwaves and dancefloors around the world. ‘Just’ was a catalyst in the conceptualisation and creation of ‘Version’ - a visionary new album that sees Mark taking on some of contemporary pop music’s big hitters in a similar vein. Using his own unique re-interpretive style, Mark has set out to demonstrate pop voyeurism and experimentalism are not alien forms. ‘Version’ is a positive, never derivative, journey through the art of the song…with added horns thrown in for good measure.
Check out Mark

R&B vocalist Deemi, hailing from Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, took singing seriously as early as high school, attending Manhattan's Talent Unlimited High School. In 1998, she crossed paths with producers Chris Styles and Bruce Waynne. The two helped her craft a demo, but she later realized that she should sing more about her own life (including physical abuse at the hands of her father, as well as being the mother of two children prior to turning 21) than merely interpret common relationship themes. Eventually signed to Atlantic through a partnership between organizations run byStyles and Waynne (the latter is one half of Midi Mafia), Deemi was set to release her first album, The Soundtrack of My Life, in 2007. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

When is the east coast region of hip-hop going to come back, especially New York City? Not saying all east coast music is wack right now, but I'm sure it's hip-hop fans out that miss the dominance of the east coast in it's early years. Currently in the new era of east-cast hip-hop there is a string of artist that could bring the Big Apple out it's rotten state. With fresh New York artist on the come up hot names in the streets include Uncle Murder, Jae Millz, Papoose and there's Maino. Hailing from the well-known borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. Maino is a new artist in the game making a name for himself. After doing a ten year prison bid for kidnapping, Maino is a man that learned from his mistakes and now ready to go the right way in life, especially in his music career. |
